Day 1

You will travel to Bedford, PA where you will start your day at Founders Crossing with a breakfast treat and drink. Chose between gourmet tea or coffee and a croissant with jam or muffin. Spend some time perusing this amazing antique store!

Next you will visit the National Museum of the American Coverlet. This organization focuses solely on the antique American woven coverlet. There is not similar museum anywhere in America! Enjoy and appreciate hundreds of coverlets and their colorful textural beauty. Dated coverlets in the collection range from 1771 to 1889.

Bedford County is home to 14 bridges and you will visit a few on this trip. The Claycomb Covered Bridge is 126 foot bridge that was moved from its original location in Reynoldsdale to the entrance of Old Bedford Village in 1975. It was rebuilt in 2004.

Lunch is at Horn O’ Plenty “Freshtaurant”. This restaurant brings community and Appalachian-inspired cuisine together for a fresh-food experience focused on supporting farmers and local producers. They are nestled in a historic 1730’s log and stone cabin built by William Todd, and ancestor of Mary Todd Lincoln.

You will make a quick stop for some shopping and dessert at Fishers Country Store. This place offers a large variety of bulk foods packaged right in the store—from baking supplies to candy sliced meats and cheeses, baked goods and produce, including locally grown items when in season. They feature lots of other great specialty items and hard-to-find products. You will receive a scoop of ice cream here.

Next you will see the Old Log Church in Schellsburg. This 2-story church was built in 1809 to accommodate the union of the Reformed and Lutheran denominations and was the first church for the early settlers in the area.

You will visit Bedford Candies a must when visiting Bedford. For over 80 years, Bedford Candies has been creating high-quality chocolates that cannot be found anywhere else.

Dinner will be a family style meal at the Historic Union Hotel. When departing from Bedford, you will have a sunset view of Jackson’s Mill Bridge. Enjoy the beautiful glow of the bridge and surrounding beauty of this drivable, county owned bridge built in 1875.

What a great day in Bedford, Pennsylvania!
